What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that the site saves in your browser and reads again when you return. Some information the site saves in another part of the browser’s memory (called “local storage”): on this page we treat it in the same way as cookies.

In brief

  • Without your choice, the site uses only what the shop needs (basket, sign-in, shipping country) and our own statistics on visits.
  • Google Analytics, Google Ads and Meta (Facebook and Instagram) are switched on only if you accept them.
  • At the start, all the choices are off. You can change them whenever you like from the “Cookie preferences” link at the bottom of every page.

1. Necessary cookies

They are needed to make the shop work. They do not ask for consent because without them you could not make a purchase.

Card and PayPal payments

If you choose to pay by card or with PayPal, the payment fields come from PayPal, which saves its own cookies to complete the payment and protect it from fraud. Names and durations are decided by PayPal: you can find them in its cookie notice.

Chat with support

The chat appears only if you press “Chat with support”, at the bottom of the page or on the help pages. It is run by Zendesk, the company that provides our support service. When you open it, Zendesk saves three codes in your browser that recognise your conversation and let you pick it up again (local storage, until you delete it). If you have accepted “Statistics”, Zendesk may also save its own statistical data on the use of the chat. Names and durations are decided by Zendesk: you can find them in its cookie notice.

2. Site statistics, our own

We count visits with a tool of our own, with no services from other companies. The data stays in an AranciaDoc database.

NameWhat it is forDuration
adoc_vidA random code that tells your browser apart from another.13 months
adoc_sessioni, adoc_sessione_corrente (local storage)Recognise the visit in progress.until you delete it
adoc_coda, adoc_fatti (local storage)Keep the information on the pages viewed until it reaches our database, and avoid counting it twice.until you delete it

These tools also work without your consent. Without consent they record the pages you visit, the products you look at, what you put in the basket and the channel you come from (for example a Google search or one of our emails). If you complete an order, the browser code stays on the order: that way we know the order came from the site.

Without consent we do not send this information to anyone else and we do not save your IP address in our database. If you accept “Statistics”, we can link the visits from several devices to the same person, for example when you sign in to your account.

3. Statistics with Google Analytics (only if you accept “Statistics”)

Google Analytics is a Google service that tells us how many people visit the pages and how they use them.

NameWhat it is forDuration
_gaTells one visitor apart from another.2 years
_ga_<code>Recognises the visit in progress.2 years

How Google handles this data: Google’s privacy notice and how Google uses data from sites that use its services. To block Google Analytics on all sites there is also the Google browser add-on.

4. Marketing with Google Ads and Meta (only if you accept “Marketing”)

If you accept, Google (Google Ads) and Meta (Facebook and Instagram) save their own cookies and receive from our site the pages and products you look at and the purchases you make. We need them to know which advertising works and to show our offers to people who have already visited the shop.

If you have accepted “Marketing”, we send some information to Google and Meta ourselves, from our system and not from your browser. They need it to recognise that a visit or a purchase comes from one of their ads:

  • to Meta: the pages and products you look at, what you put in the basket, searches and purchases; your IP address, browser type and Meta cookies; for purchases also email, phone, first name, last name, city, postcode and country;
  • to Google: purchases, with email, phone, the ad click code, the products, the value and whether you are a new or returning customer.

Email, phone, first name, last name, city, postcode and country are sent transformed into a code (hash): Google and Meta compare it with the data of their users, but the original data cannot be read from the code.

Names and durations of the cookies are decided by Google and Meta, and you can find them on their pages:

How you choose and how you change your mind

  • On your first visit a box appears with three buttons of the same size: “Reject”, “Accept all” and “Choose”. With “Choose” you decide separately for “Statistics” and “Marketing”. At the start both are off.
  • Scrolling the page or carrying on browsing does not count as consent.
  • We remember your choice and we do not ask for your consent on every visit. The box reappears only if we change the services we use or if you clear your browser’s memory.
  • You can change your choice at any time from the “Cookie preferences” link at the bottom of every page, as easily as you gave it.
  • You can also delete cookies from your browser settings. If you delete the necessary ones, the basket empties and you have to sign in again.

How long we keep the data

  • Visits and pages viewed stay in our database for 26 months, then they are deleted automatically. Only the totals remain, which do not concern any individual.
  • The IP address, browser type and Meta cookies stay with us only until they are sent to Meta, and in any case for no more than 7 days. The log of what was sent to Google and Meta is deleted after 3 months.

Your rights

You can ask us at any time to show you, correct or delete the data about you, and to stop using it. You can withdraw your consent whenever you like, with no effect on your purchases. Write to info@aranciadoc.com.

If you think your data is being handled incorrectly, you can lodge a complaint with the Italian Data Protection Authority (Garante per la protezione dei dati personali): www.garanteprivacy.it.

How we classify cookies

We use three groups: “necessary” (needed by the shop and not requiring consent), “statistics” and “marketing”. Statistics and marketing with services from other companies start only with your consent.
